null The COVID-19 Detection Center of the National Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Started Operating

The COVID-19 Detection Center at the National Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (NIGEB) was launched on March 19, 2020.
Due to the prevalence of Covid-19 in the country, the NIGEB, with its high scientific and research potential has set up a corona virus detection center to perform precise molecular diagnosis of this viral infection. The center includes various sections and laboratories that have been visited and accredited by the authorities from the Ministry of Health and Medical Education, and the ministry has issued due license of activity. This center has the highest level of safety standard and operates in accordance with the instructions of the World Health Organization (WHO).
The center has the detection capacity for the corona virus with more than one thousand samples per day and currently uses standard detection kits. At the same time, the final stages of development and production of local-made detection kits are underway by the institute.

In addition, 10 research working groups in the field of COVID-19 disease have been set up in this research institute which incorporate faculty members of NIGEB and the scientists from all around the country. These working groups are actively trying to develop technologies in various fields, including vaccine production, the application of herbal medicines in the treatment and genomics studies.
